1965 DRY WESTERN CHASSIS, NO DAMAGE Red /Red 365hp coupe
1965 red / red Corvette coupe , vin # 1111, built Friday Sept 18, 1964. Original engine 327/365 assembled Saturday Aug 29, 1964.
Sold by Cantrell Chevrolet in Cooper, TX in September 1964. The original owner moved to California in 1969, and the car has been in California since. It is powered by its original L76 327/365hp engine. It was frame-off restored in 1982 by long time Corvette enthusiast Bob Engle with lacquer paint. He changed the red vinyl to Al Knoch leather, replaced the original 3.08 gears with 3.70s, added offroad N11 exhaust, and knock-off wheels.
The original window sticker and title are with the with car. Entered California in mid-1969 per the black / gold CA license plate YRX235.
Excellent body and paint. Very minor left front lower valance body damage under the grill expertly repaired. Car was re-sprayed with ‘original’ lacquer in 1982 and has ‘lacquer chips’ consistent with paint of the era. Car is a # 7 or 8 original paint appearing car and would do well in NCRS judging.
The original motor, transmission, differential, and suspension were rebuilt in 2009. Motor received new splayed caps, Crower Sportsman rods, a date-coded Holley list 2818 carburetor, and Pertronix-type ignition. On the dyno, it made 340hp, comparable to a SuperChevy magazine test, “Fuelie Fisticuffs” of the L76. 5000 miles since.
Reproduction knock offs. Original dash, restored gauges and clock, mint door panels.
As concessions to driving safety, 1967-style Al Knoch headrests were added, also shoulder harnesses, and power brakes with a 1965-6 style dual master cylinder replacing the original single line disc brake master cylinder.
The car now has a 1966-type shift linkage that eliminates the 1965 rattle, new clutch, a date-coded new windshield, and an S&M internal stereo conversion with auxiliary input. Doors hinges have been bucked, door weatherstrips replaced, heater core and fuel tank sender replaced, driver’s seat foam replaced. New Optima battery.
Tires have lots of tread but are ten years old and should be replaced.
It does have a few paint chips and a scratch on the glove box door.
This Corvette is further documented with photos from the 1982 restoration, and Texas and California registrations from all five owners. The engine stamp pad, VIN tag, and trim tag are legible, original and unaltered.
Located in Santa Rosa, California and worth every penny of $65000. Over $40,000 invested since 2008.
As they say, go find one. A BEAUTIFUL 1965 RED / RED 4-SPEED, 365HP, CORVETTE COUPE that has been well cared for by all owners .
